Some Bunny is One…

If you want the emotional "My baby is one!" post — check the archives. This post is all about the PAR-TAY!! We're one of those covid conscious families, so Emma girl's first birthday didn't go exactly like I thought it would. However, with the help of my sweet mama, we were able to give Emma a party I'll never forget. Birthday parties are so special for me… my mom always gave me a party to remember, and I want to do the same for Em.

Parties are only as good as the theme, and I've been thinking about party themes for my future baby since I got pregnant! For her first birthday, I wanted something sweet and delicate – just like her! haha! FYI - her nickname is bam! bam! After thinking through a couple of ideas, I landed on "Some Bunny is One!"

The Vision

Let's start with the outfit. I found this cute romper on H&M when Emma was only a few months old, and when I saw it, I knew… THAT'S THE OUTFIT! I'm not sure what I loved about it so much, but it was the inspiration for all things. From there, as with most projects, I started with a vision board…

So what was the vision?

  • Soft, modern florals

  • A sweet, simple bunny touches

  • Fall-ish pinks, purples, and greens

  • Nothing too overly complicated

So next came the fun part… planning and SHOPPING!

The PLAN

I tried not to go too crazy. I wanted a fun, easy afternoon celebrating this past year and our sweet little girl. I wanted it to feel like a party, so of course, I needed some fun decor with a bunny touch here and there. We had a minimal guest list, so I knew we could get by with a simple menu. I went with crudités, charcuterie, and cake! Simple decor + simple menu = simply perfect!

Menu

Let's start with the food. I know I wanted to keep it basic and casual, veggies, cheese, meats, and sweets! For the crudités, I planned to do some veggies and a trio of pre-made dips. I settled on a garlic hummus, a basic spinach & kale yogurt dip, and caramelized onion dip (all from Trader Joe's). Next, I did your basic charcuterie board, meats, cheese, honey, quince paste, pickles, and crackers. Finally, the sweets… We are really trying to do no sugar until she's two, so her smash cake was a no sugar, fruit-based cake with a whipped greek yogurt frosting. I just made a basic vanilla cake and some sugar cookies decorated by my sweet mom for the adults! We wrapped the sugar cookies and gave them to everyone as they left as a bit of thank you for coming over!

Decor

Y'all. I had a little too much fun on this portion of the plan. Obviously, is it even a party without balloon garland? I checked out Amazon, and while they have great options… I wanted something a little more elevated. I went with this fantastic double stuffed set from Pop Fest Co! They have the most amazing colors and garland sets, and the quality is truly excellent. Warning: If you get these, make sure you have a strong pump! The double stuff balloons are very finicky.

Next, I had to find a fun little cake stand for her sweet little cake. I found the sweetest little bunny one online that I just LOVE! The rest of the decor was really just simple DIY things my mom and I pulled together with stuff from Amazon! Her highchair garland was a pre-made yarn garland from Amazon with a "one" sign made from cardboard! I loved our plates, cups, and napkins. They were perfect for the menu. I'm so glad I did everything disposable even though there was only a handful of us. At the end of the party, I basically took the whole island of cups, plates, and leftover food, and just dumped it straight in the trash.

The Results

Remember when I said I planned the whole party around the outfit… well, I guess I should have checked with Emma girl before I did that because she had other plans. She basically didn't stop pulling at her outfit and wanted it off IMMEDIATELY after putting it on. I tried to get her to stick it out as long as it took for family photos and her cake. She was a trooper but wanted out of that outfit ASAP. We let her pick her outfits every day, and so after the cake was over, she picked one of her favorites. Did it go with the theme? Not in the slightest. But it's funny how changing into an outfit you love can really change your mood! Before changing her outfit, it seemed like Em was really enjoying the day with some of her favorite people.

My favorite memory from the day will be how excited she was to get new shoes. Shoes have been an exciting challenge over the past few months. She went from hating them to wanting them on AT ALL TIMES. I wrapped some new boots for winter, and as soon as she tore open the package, she was ready to get those shoes on and show them off! Since opening them, she's wanted them on at all times, in all situations.

All in all, it was the perfect day for our perfect little pandemic baby. I'm sad we didn't get to spend it with ALL our family and friends, but thankful for the time we had together with those who were there. Plus, we're doing a repeat next week with Tyler's parents. So I think this pandemic baby might be a tad over celebrated! What do you think?
